Ijuin Rod Sakura – Japanese UD-Glass Fiberglass Blank

The Sakura from Ijuin Rod combines traditional Japanese aesthetics with an exceptionally harmonious fiberglass action. Designed for fly fishers and rod builders who are not looking for maximum speed, but rather rhythm, feel, and a deep connection between caster, line, and fish.

It is named after the Japanese cherry blossom – Sakura. In Japan, it symbolizes spring, renewal, and at the same time, the beauty of the moment. Kazutomo Ijuin transfers this very idea to his rods: less hectic, more awareness, and more joy in every single cast.

Progressive Parabolic Action

The Sakura is made from UD-Glass according to Ijuin-Rod's own design and has a progressive-parabolic action.

Not only does the rod tip work. Under increasing load, the blank is involved more and more deeply, forming a smooth, harmonious bend curve from the upper section far into the lower blank.

The result is a very smooth casting feel with noticeable loading and natural line control.

The Sakura loads excellently even at short and medium distances and rewards a calm, clean casting rhythm. At the same time, the progressive power development offers sufficient reserves to safely land even larger fish.

A classic, light trout blank with a slow to moderate, deep working characteristic. Ideal for dry flies, smaller waters, and fly fishers looking for a very direct connection to the line.

7’11” #5 – 4-piece
The more versatile variant of the Sakura series. More reach and power reserves, while still featuring the characteristic progressive-parabolic action. A very interesting choice for medium trout waters and versatile #5 setups.

Sakura or Yomogi?

While the Yomogi strongly emphasizes the very slow, pronounced full-flex character of fiberglass, the Sakura appears more progressive and somewhat more versatile.
