Thomas & Thomas Exocett 88 Single-Handed Fly Rod 8.8 ft

The Thomas & Thomas Exocett 88 is the evolution of the legendary Exocett SS and sets new standards in saltwater and streamer fishing in general – fly fishing. With its 8'8" length and progressive taper, it delivers lightning-fast recovery for effortless long casts. The innovative multi-module carbon and S-glass construction offers superior stiffness with reduced swing weight – ideal for fatigue-free all-day fishing. The rod boasts precise tracking, consistent accuracy, and exceptional lifting power in critical moments. A tool for discerning saltwater anglers seeking a combination of performance and comfort.

This is an extremely powerful rod, specifically designed for streamer fishing, regardless of whether the flies are small or large and heavy, or whether the line is floating or sinking. Its easy-loading, progressive action adapts seamlessly, allowing for both powerful, long casts with heavy line and delicate, precise casts. However, the rod's focus is clearly on modern, highly effective streamer fishing for predators in both freshwater and saltwater. Naturally, only the best, corrosion-resistant components were used, such as an aluminum reel seat and titanium guides with inserts. But above all, the rod's unique blank makes the 88 an absolute workhorse, both when casting bushy streamers and when fighting fish!

The rod's action is fast, with a quicker recovery than the SS model. Furthermore, the blank was designed to work exceptionally well with modern, compact fly lines, whether poppers or large, weighted streamers. Another impressive feature is the Excoett 88's enormous lifting power. It can effortlessly lift several meters of sinking line out of the water to recast the fly. This power is also a huge advantage when fishing for pike or zander from a boat or belly boat. Boat anglers using state-of-the-art equipment, such as livescopes, will quickly appreciate the rod's power.

The components used and the craftsmanship of this 8.8 ft short rod demonstrate the highest quality and attention to detail. The titanium guides of the T&T rod are meticulously hand-wrapped onto the dark blue, matte blank and flawlessly lacquered. Each section of the 4-piece rod is marked with the batch number, ensuring that every part is made from 100% identical materials and will be replaced in the event of a warranty claim. The grip of the 88 is made of non-porous cork, with a reinforced section of a cork composite, so that no inclusions will be visible even after years of use. Two locknuts provide extra security for the reel on the aluminum reel seat, and their milled recesses and knurled sections allow for exceptional grip when tightened.

The T&T SS was already one of the best streamer rods on the market, and with the new Exocett 88, Thomas&Thomas is releasing a brilliant successor to this rod, which is impressive and bursting with power.
Strength when it counts - versatility where it matters!

Thomas&Thomas Technologies:

  • Multi-module Strato-Therm blank
The blank of the Exocett SS is crisp and powerful, loading smoothly and boasting a very fast recovery. Its powerful backbone remains largely unused during precise close-range casts. Only when it comes to launching flies across the wind at long distances does the rod unleash its full potential, transferring all its power to the fly line. Furthermore, the multi-module blank dampens excessive shock from heavy flies and sinking lines, resulting in greater distance and accuracy with fewer wasted casts.
  • Proprietary binders
The performance of graphite fibers depends on the quality of the binder that holds them together. Bonding technology has improved rapidly in recent years, and T&T has worked with leading companies in the industry to develop its own resin that enhances the performance of graphite materials. In this new resin, T&T uses nanoscale particles to eliminate microscopic voids in the graphite. Filling these tiny gaps with this high-performance resin improves the strength, durability, and damping properties of the rod blank while simultaneously reducing its overall weight.
  • Ferrule Reinforcement Process / FRP
On fly rods, the ferrule joints are the areas subjected to the most critical stresses. For this reason, T&T hand-rolls a strategic additional layer of high-strength graphite over these areas. Besides reinforcing the ferrule, this process gives the fly rods a distinctive detail.
  • Optimal Blank Curing / OBC
The performance characteristics of the graphite blanks and the nanoparticle resins used depend heavily on the curing process. Changes in the curing process are immediately reflected in the blank's performance. Thomas&Thomas takes the curing process very seriously and carries it out using a regulated, precise temperature control procedure. The OBC helps T&T achieve maximum performance from the graphite and binder and ensure rigorous quality control.
