With the RVR series, the traditional American company Bauer has once again achieved a tremendous success. After three years of development, these fly reels not only make a bold statement in terms of design, but also shake up the premium segment from a technical perspective. When developing the modern design, the experienced reel builders quickly realized how challenging it is to machine such a complex fly reel. The complexity and double-anodized design of the RVR would have been too difficult to realize on a conventional 3-axis machine, so they sought out the latest available 5-axis machines. With success, as the results clearly demonstrate. The workmanship of the Bauer RVR fly reels is beyond reproach and flawless in every respect. Minimal gaps, beautifully flattened edges, delicate yet sturdy struts, and a grippy drag knob that can be adjusted with ease – these are just a few of the highlights. With various models, the RVR series covers most typical scenarios of modern fly fishing – for example, nymph fishing.
The RVR Euro Nymph features a super large arbor design, allowing long leaders or thin specialty lines to be spooled up quickly and drastically reducing the risk of memory. However, the spool size and capacity are significantly reduced overall, as modern nymph lines have a smaller diameter and lack the typical thick belly of traditional fly lines. This saves unnecessary weight, making the reel a perfect match for delicate nymph rods in classes 2 to 4. Weighing in at 138g and measuring approximately 9.5cm in diameter, this member of the RVR family is deliberately designed to balance rods 10 to 11ft in length. Furthermore, unlike regular RVR reels, Bauer's product developers opted for a closed spool cage. This is a huge advantage in practice, as the closed frame design prevents long, thin leaders from becoming trapped or damaged.
With its jet-black finish and minimalist, laser-etched accents, the RVR Euro Nymph fits perfectly on most nymph rods, which are also typically characterized by a subtle design. A beautiful, top-of-the-line fly reel that we immediately fell in love with. It impresses with its unique design and outstanding craftsmanship, making it a reliable partner for many years of enjoyable fishing for trout, grayling, or barbel.
