With the Soulmate Obsidian 963, we are expanding the Obsidian series with a particularly exciting blank for all fly fishers who are looking for more reach and line control in dry fly fishing without wanting to compromise on feel and fine presentation.

With a length of 9’6” and line class #3, the Obsidian 963 combines the lightness of a fine dry fly rod with the advantages of a longer blank. The additional 6 inches provide more reach, better mending control, and longer, controlled drifts – ideal on larger rivers, wider pools, or wherever the fly needs to be presented cleanly a little further out.

The well-balanced Medium-Fast to Fast action loads pleasantly, offers a direct feel for the line and cast, and at the same time has sufficient backbone when more line needs to be held in the air. This allows for both short, precise presentations and longer casts to be executed in a controlled and efficient manner.

Made from modern HM Toray HDC Carbon, the blank impresses with its low weight, high recovery speed, and very clean power transfer. The satin matte black finish emphasizes the minimalist, high-quality look and makes the Obsidian 963 the ideal basis for a modern, lightweight custom build.
