Soulmate Creek 663 S-Glass Fly Rod Building Kit
The perfect small-stream rod for tight creeks and delicate presentations
Small, overgrown creeks place special demands on a fly rod. The backcast area is often severely restricted, branches hang low over the water, and casts must be made quickly, precisely, and with control. At the same time, the day's biggest trout is often waiting under a root or an overhanging alder.
The Soulmate Creek 663 was developed precisely for these conditions.
With its compact length of 6’6”, line class #3, and modern, progressive S-Glass action, it is the ideal companion for small waters. It loads exceptionally well with just a little line beyond the rod tip, allowing for pinpoint casts even where there is hardly any space for a classic backcast.
The Soulmate Creek combines the robustness of a high-quality glass rod with a surprisingly fast action and unparalleled casting performance.
Modern S-Glass – lightweight, robust, and exceptionally precise
The heart of the kit is the Soulmate Creek S-Glass blank.
Made from modern S-Glass, the blank offers an ideal combination of high load capacity, low weight, and fast recovery. Compared to classic fiberglass rods, the Creek reacts much more directly and precisely, without losing the smooth character of a glass rod. Its robust construction makes it particularly durable – a great advantage when fishing under dense tree cover or in narrow stream beds.
The progressive medium-fast action ensures that the blank loads cleanly even at the shortest distances and accelerates the line with minimal effort.
The result:
- maximum precision at short distances
- finest dry fly presentations
- excellent control for light nymphing
- fast recovery for accurate casts
- high robustness for demanding stream environments
- enormous power reserves during the fight
Designed for tight creeks and limited backcast space
The Soulmate Creek 663 feels at home where other fly rods reach their limits.
Under low-hanging branches, amidst dense vegetation, or along narrow stream beds, its compact length reveals its greatest strengths. With just a few meters of line, the blank loads cleanly, allowing for precise casts from almost any position.
Whether a short overhead cast, roll cast, or a compact single-hand Spey cast – the Creek places dry flies exactly where they need to be.
The slightly faster action ensures exceptionally direct line control and allows for accurate presentations even in the tightest spaces.
Small in hand – big in the fight
Don't be fooled by its size.
Although the Soulmate Creek 663 was developed specifically for small waters, it possesses astonishing power reserves. The progressive glass action works deep within the blank, reliably absorbing even the hard runs of large trout.
Fine leaders are protected, while there is enough backbone to safely guide surprisingly strong fish out of the current or from under submerged branches.
It is precisely this combination of sensitivity and power that makes the Creek an exceptional small-stream rod.

What else do I need?
What else do I need?
The kits contain all essential components and consumables for building your Soulmate fly rod. However, some additional tools and aids will make your work easier and ensure a particularly clean result.
Helpful Tools and Materials
- Good work light: Very important so that wraps, transitions, and any adhesive residue remain clearly visible.
- Stable workspace: Ideally, the assembly area can remain set up for the entire construction period.
- Sharp knife or scalpel: For precisely cutting thread ends.
- Lint-free cloths: For cleaning components and removing adhesive residue.
- Denatured alcohol: For degreasing and cleaning the blank, grip, and adhesive surfaces. Acetone should be used very carefully.
- Small scissors: Helpful for winding, positioning, and shortening the wrapping thread.
- Fly-tying bobbin: Recommended if you are working with the included rod stands.
- Fine sandpaper or steel wool: For carefully roughing up adhesive surfaces.
- Tape measure, pencil or China marker and masking tape: For guide spacing, markings, and protective lines.
Optional Extras
A rod dryer or slow-rotating motor is particularly helpful to ensure the epoxy finish remains evenly distributed during curing. Without continuous rotation, the finish can run or form drips.
The included wrapping thread can be used directly. Of course, you can also choose your own colors and customize your rod. Silk thread can appear transparent to translucent with proper processing, while nylon generally creates a stronger and more opaque color effect.
Difficulty, setup time, and service?
Difficulty, setup time, and service?
Difficulty
The Soulmate Fly Rod Building Kit is suitable for ambitious beginners as well as experienced rod builders. All essential components are coordinated, and the individual steps are clearly explained in the instructions. However, some manual skill, patience, and careful work are still important, especially when aligning the guides, wrapping the thread, and applying the finish.
Assembly Time
Depending on your experience, working method, and model, you should allow about two to three evenings for complete assembly. This does not include the respective drying and curing times for glue and rod finish. A calm assembly without time pressure ensures the cleanest result.
My Service Promise
Even after your purchase, I won't leave you alone with your project. If you have questions about individual steps, components, guide positions, or the application of glue and finish, you will receive personal support. My goal is for you to be able to build your Soulmate fly rod safely, cleanly, and with joy – from the first step to the finished rod.
Need a spare part?
